The God in Making

Ganesh durga puja kolkata - photography by Sukalyan Chakraborty
Camera: Nikon D3000
Shutter Speed: 1/1000 s
Aperture: f/3.5
ISO: 100
In Kumortuli, Kolkata, artists work in poor facilities to produce their artistic marvels. This photograph of lord Ganesha is taken in the afternoon when the 200 Watt bulb was the only source of light. Every time I visit Kumortuli I got amazed by the fact that how can they (the Artists) create such beautiful idols in such a poorly lit, hot and humid place, where even there is little space to walk freely. This snap is my tribute to all those great artists who never got the appreciation they should get.

The Goddess Is There

Durga Puja at Kolkata, Bengali Festival - photography by Sukalyan Chakraborty
Camera - Nikon D3000
Shutter Speed: 1/5 s
Aperture: f/5
ISO: 800
As the Durga puja, the biggest festival in West Bengal, is knocking at the door we all are becoming very very busy in some way or other. But the news paper is carrying the same news of death and hunger. In this dark world of crime and hatred the Demon (Asura) looms large. But we still love to believe that the goddess is there and she is watching all these devils and will punish them in due time. Perhaps that's the reason everyday something happens what brings smile in our faces...

This photograph is taken in Kumortuli, Kolkata. It was a very poor lighted studio. At the time we visited this studio there was no artist working, otherwise there would be some artificial light source. But this poor light helped me to take this meaningful snap. Because of the lack of light we can only view the face of the demon and the Durga placed befind.

The Ghost House

Ghost House creative photography by Sukalyan Chakraborty

Location: My House
Camera: KODAK C663
Exposure: 8s
Aperture: f/5.1
ISO: 80

In my childhood days I loved to watch horror movies. And I was very much fascinated with the idea of  being a ghost. I almost decided what I would do when I will become a ghost. But age stole all my innocence and made me a person with reason. Now, sadly enough, I find horror movies funny. Few days back I read once again my childhood favorite author, Sukumar Ray. And suddenly I found all childhood back for a moment. Of course the idea of ghost also. Now I became interested to see my own ghost, but how? So I click this Picture where my presence is somewhat ghostlike (not the killer one I guess), see through.

P.S: I didn't use any software to create this picture. This one is clicked like this using some basic theories of camera and light. I wish one day I will share the trick with you...
